Jamboree Travel Experience: Africa
The Jamboree is an experience and adventure for everyone. This is where scouts from all over the world come together.
The Namibian contingent traveled for many hours on three connecting flights to arrive at the Summit. Their journey started with a short flight from Namibia to South Africa. From there, the contingent took a six hour flight to Ghana and a fourteen hour flight to Washington, DC. The flight to Washington, DC was overnight. A scout noted, “Although they flew overnight, they were too excited to sleep.”
The journey did not end there. Next, they had to take a long, but exciting bus ride from Washington, DC to finally arrive at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in the early afternoon. The scouts loved travelling by bus because they saw other buses with scouts. Throughout the ride, they were waving at and sharing their excitement with the other scout buses. Two Namibian girls enthusiastically said that their favorite part of the journey was the turbulence during the flights and the beautiful, green trees at the Summit. Namibia is a lot dryer than the United States, so they were astonished at how green and lush the trees were.
The trip to Starbucks was also a highlight of the trip. The girls agreed that the most difficult part of the journey was the lack of sleep, but everyone is ecstatic to have finally arrived. Everyone is ready to enjoy each and every day at the World Scout Jamboree!
