Holding Hands to Promote Road Safety
The Hellenic Road Safety Institute and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) will be conducting a Holding Hands event to promote worldwide youth road safety as part of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety. This event will take place οn Wednesday 31 July 2019 at 11:00 in the AT&T Stadium. It will last about 30 minutes. We are asking for two scouts, one boy and one girl from each country to participate in the event.
During the event, two scouts, a boy and girl from each country, will hold their hands to promote road safety by forming a huge human circle. The scouts will then sing the song “Together Make It Loud”, and promise to be safe users of the road as a pedestrian, cyclist, or driver. The scouts will then make a promise to respect the rules of the road and promote road safety in their countries.
Each year, 1.35 million people die in road-related incidents. Road crashes are the leading cause of fatal and serious injuries for youth worldwide. As part of the Holding Hands event, a message will be shown from Jean Todt, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile and United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety, greeting the scouts. At the event, each scout will receive a safety vest and wrist band as gifts to take home and further promote road safety in their countries.
