Two weeks of extreme adventure was about to end. The countdown for us to return home had
already started! How to leave such an incredible scout family and go…?
“ I belong West Virginia…” and so echoed that rhythm everywhere.

FRAME1: Final gathering of the scouts family at the WSJ 2019
The ceremony was scheduled for six but due to lightening activities and the drastic weather
change, we began the event at about 20 00 hrs. Scouts from all the contingents present there
were elegantly dressed in their respective uniform.
The night begun with a marching band of the 3 rd US Infantry Regiment ( Old Guards).
The first speech to be delivered was by Ahmad Alhendawi; the Secretary General of the World
Organisation of the scout movement.
The ceremony was blessed with the presence of Ban Ki moon; a South Korean politician and the
former Secretary General of the United Nations.
Being an influential figure in the world, he left no stones unturned to remind us of our “ duty to
God, to our country, to help other people at all times and to obey our scout laws". His speech
contained all the fundamentals we needed to hear and just enough to leave us speechless!

The speeches were followed by the handing over of the Jamboree flag to the Korea Scouts
Association which will be the host of the 25 th World Scout Jamboree in 2023.
The formal part of the ceremony over, here comes the rocking part. A mind blowing concert by
Pentatonix was what complemented the show. The Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve was on fire
that night. Scouts were dancing with their Novus illuminating the dark with a plethora of
colours.

Video1:laser show
The last part was the pyrotechnics; a fragment of technology dominated by AT&T. For the first
time in my life I had seen such a laser show. It was innovation in its pure form!
The part which included the melodious tube ‘Con Te Partirò’ from Andrea Bocelli was for me
the perfect one to characterise the end of that Jamboree.

Frame2: Fireworks
With a cruel feeling of sorrow and tears, believe me, this was a heart breaking atmosphere of
farewell. No one could stay indifferent!
With heavy hearts, we dismantled the camp site and packed before setting out for our journey
back home…
“I’m leavin’ on a jet plane…Don’t know when I’ll be back again…” CE N’EST QU’UN AUREVOIR!

A BIG THANKS TO THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE ON BEHALF OF THE MAURITIAN
CONTINGENT AND IN MY PERSONAL NAME FOR MAKING THE 24TH WSJ AN INCREDIBLE
EVENT THAT WILL STAY IN OUR MEMORY FOREVER!
