Global Development Village

The Global Development Village (GDV) is an opportunity to involve young people in the global development agenda and empower them with the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to play an active role in their communities. It is an interactive space within the World Scout Jamboree designed to raise awareness about global issues, build capacities among young people, and create a strong commitment for Creating a Better World.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the main topics at the GDV. The universal, transformational and inclusive SDGs describe major development challenges for humanity. The aim of the 17 SDGs is to secure a sustainable, peaceful, prosperous and equitable life on Earth for everyone now and in the future.

Meet new friends and have fun

The GDV is a real village, with real people from different countries and sectors. It is organized in neighborhoods where the global issues live. It has a main plaza, where young people can meet with friends to talk and have fun. It has exhibitions and performances, sound and music, and lots of activities and interactive workshops.

Learn a skill; teach a skill

The GDV will provide a meeting place for young people from all the world to interact and exchange ideas, to learn new skills and bring them back home and to discuss with experts from National and International Organizations from all sectors working on the main challenges the world faces today. At the 24th World Scout Jamboree, more than 40,000 Scouts and visitors from all around the world will have a unique opportunity to learn directly from world-class specialists how their local actions have a global impact, and how they can make a difference in their communities.

Share with others

Scouts do great things around the world and we want you to tell everyone about it. That amazing community project you participated in. All those people you thought a new skill to. Those children that know how to read because of you. That village that now has clean water after Scouts intervened. The GDV will be an open space for sharing and learning from each other.

Earn a new badge

We have badges for you! Scouts will have the opportunity of experiencing WOSM’s programs under the Better World Framework (Scouts of the World Award, Messengers of Peace, World Scout Environment Program, Dialogue for Peace, Scouts GoSolar), and other global initiatives such as the Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA). Skills that you learn at GDV can help you earn a new badge or two.

The Global Development Village Badge

The badge represents each of the topics covered by the Global Development Village: People, Prosperity, Peace, Planet and Partnerships.

By participating in one workshop or activity for each topic, sharing your story in a campfire, and being part of a special event, you can earn the Global Development Village Badge.
