The trail to Mt. Jack begins on the Southeast side of Basecamp Alpha. From there, a brisk hike of about 4.25 miles (about 6.9 km) will help wake you up!

Start by visiting the Information Booth to plan your day at Mt. Jack. Choose to start on either the East or West sides of the mountain.

We chose to start on the far East side and then work our way back across the mountain. Before starting, though, we stopped to catch our breath at the Summit of the Summit. At 2810 feet (857 m), it is the highest point at the Summit Bechtel Reserve!

At the Friendship Tartan Games, stop by the Swordsmith forge and see how the Jamboree Sword is coming! Then test your physical strength, stamina, and agility with fun events like the Caber Toss, Hammer Toss, and Shaef Toss! Finally, stop in the tent to get your Novus points and learn about Celtic history and culture!

By the way, Mount Jack is a great way to earn lots of Novus points! If you want a more modern competition, stop by Field Sports, where you can play football (soccer), basketball, flag football, ultimate frisbee, baseball, volleyball, and even inflatable miniature golf!

Or, you can go to the Frontier Village and shoot muzzle-loaders and throw axes!

Now you have completed Mt. Jack East. This might be a good time to have lunch. If you did not bring lunch, the BBQ vendor will make sure you do not go hungry! Then move on to the Wood, Ropes & Spars (Pioneering) area. The cellular and Wifi reception is very reliable here!

At the First Scout Camps of North America exhibit, you can learn from the knowledgeable staff about how Ernest Thompson Seton, Daniel Carter Beard, and Lord Baden Powell collaborated to form the Boy Scouts of America in the early 1900s. You can see the equipment that Scouts used to camp, learn about the principles that guided North American Scouting in the early days, and understand how those principals continue to inform modern Scouting.

Finally, at the far West end of Mount Jack, challenge yourself to one of two Spartan Race courses! You can choose between a 1-mile and 2-mile race with obstacles that include lifting, climbing, and carrying various objects.

Congratulations to all who finished the Spartan Race and Mount Jack! We hope you saved some energy for the walk back to Base Camp!
