Forget what you have seen in the movies! Shooting at the World Scout Jamboree is fun and safe. The place to be to try shooting is at the Barrels atop Thrasher Mountain. Different types of activity areas and ranges for shooting sprawl across 60 acres, leaving more than enough space for the adventurous, but safe experiences. A shotgun instructor said, “There’s nothing to be scared of.” The U.S.-based instructors are all certified through a safety-oriented training of the National Rifle Association, a group that provides shooting sports certification. It is safe to say that all the staff members at the activity are experienced and trained.

The experience begins with a safety class for all of the participants, where an instructor explains the safety rules, how the firearm is used, and how the event operates. After the instructions, the participants get fitted with hearing and eye protection. When the participants are ready, they will be personally coached at shooting on a range. The best experience is guaranteed if the participant relaxes while pulling the trigger and trusts that it will not hurt. It is also very important to listen to the instructor. The instructors give helpful advice and teach proper shooting technique. The only thing left to do is to have fun and enjoy every moment of the experience!
