Field Trip to Charleston

Today was a really fun day and a great opportunity for me as a global Ambassador, we visited Charleston the capital of West Virginia and went on a tour of many of the town’s landmarks. We started in the west Virginia state museum where we learned all about the history of the state and it’s people. In the same building as the museum there was also the states archives where they keep important historical documents such as prison files death certificates and land deeds. It was amazing to see the amount of information that could be collected in such a small place and the sheer variety of its content.

After the museum we took a river barge up and down the river where we saw beautiful views of the historical landmarks such as the state capitol building and university of Charleston. It was also refreshing for me as a sea scout to be on the water again as west Virginia is a land locked state.

Finally to end our great day we visited Dickenson salt works where we got to see first hand the process of producing salt using solar beds and later got to try the product in its many different flavours and forms.
