The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia will be the host for the 24th World Scout Jamboree from July 22 to August 2, 2019.  The World Scout Jamboree will bring together about 45,000 Scouts and Scouters from over 165 countries to share the values, joy, adventure and fellowship of the world scouting program.  The theme of the Jamboree is “Unlock a New World”.  This Jamboree is jointly hosted by the national scouting organizations of Scouts Canada, Asociación de Scouts de México, and the Boy Scouts of America.

Day visitor guests are welcome and will have the opportunity to visit and participate in much of the Jamboree experience.  On-line ticket sales will begin in late 2018 and will be announced on the Jamboree website (https://www.2019wsj.org/attend/day-visitors/).  Dates, hours, ticket prices, list of prohibited items, frequently asked questions, and other important information will be located on the day visitor web page.  You should check it regularly for new information.

Your day visit adventure begins at the “J.W. & Hazel Ruby West Virginia Welcome Center,” located in Mount Hope, West Virginia.  All day visitors will park at the Welcome Center and board motor coaches that will take you to the Jamboree and return you to the Welcome Center at the end of the day. Tickets will be available for sale at the Welcome Center if you haven’t purchased tickets ahead of your visit.  However, the number of visitors will be limited each day, and advance reservations are strongly encouraged to avoid disappointment.

Visitors will be issued a wristband which will allow you to board the motor coach following a brief check-in process and security screening.   Each motor coach will have a member of the Guest Services staff who will share important and useful information to make your Jamboree visit enjoyable.

Visitors will be able to visit the Scott Summit Center which will be bustling with activities shared by scouts from all over the world, learning and experiencing the adventures of world scouting globally.

Day visitors will not be able to visit the sub camps or program areas outside the Summit Center and will be observers in the participant venues within Summit Center as well.

What will you be able to see and do in the Summit Center?  There will be large trading posts, International Food Houses (food available for purchase), snack bars, information booths, toilet facilities and places to fill your water bottles.  Patch trading, meeting scouts and scouters from across the world and making new friends will happen here.  Three unique areas at the Summit Center that you will want to visit and get involved are the Global Development Village (GDV), Centro Mondial, and World Point.  These are uniquely World Jamboree experiences as they bring together scouts, leaders, and leading experts from across the globe.

At the GDV, scouts and visitors will have an opportunity to become involved in the Global Development Agenda and will be empowered with the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to be an agent of change in their communities. The GDV is a village.  Within the village there will be a main plaza where you will be able to meet, talk to and make friends and have fun for sure.  Exhibits, performances, workshops, activities, and music will be happening throughout the day.  You may have the opportunity to earn or begin the path to earn some of the World Organization of Scouting Movement (WOSM) badges such as the Scouts of the World Award, Messengers of Peace or the World Scout Environment Program.  Want to learn more? Check out https://www.2019wsj.org/5-gdv/.

In the heart of the Jamboree you will experience the three key programs of the Centro Mondial: North American Dream (the New World); Foundations, Faith, and Spirituality; and Living in the 21st Century.   At the North American Dream, you can learn about the cultures of Canada, Mexico and the United States.  You will experience the Inventors Hall of Fame or perhaps learn about trading stocks in a stock market simulation. In the Foundations, Faith and Spirituality area you will learn about Duty to God and about the many faiths that are practiced across the globe.  Living in the 21st Century has brought us great and significant changes.  You will find activities and experts in areas such as food, communications and social media, transportation, technology and exploration.  Visit the Sustainability Tree house – a truly unique treasure found only the Summit Bechtel National Family Scout Reserve!  The Geothermal wells power the Scott Visitor Center in the Gateway area.  Want to learn more?  Check out https://www.2019wsj.org/centro-mondial/.

World Point is not to be missed, for a focal point of energy, excitement and activity.  Scouts from across the world will be presenting their unique cultures and traditions as well as what they share with us in common. The stages will be busy.  Music, dance and cultural experiences will change throughout the day.  Many national scout organizations will have exhibits set up to visit.  World Point is where you see and experience the world of Scouting.  Want to learn more?  Check out https://www.2019wsj.org/get-to-the-point/.

In addition to the GDV, Centro Mondial and World Point, there are other areas to explore.  You will be able to walk across the unique Consol Energy Bridge, visit and see World Jamboree Scouts enjoy the Boulder Cove Climbing area, BMX & Mountain Biking center, skate boarding, Canopy tours, Challenge Courses and other programs that take place in the Summit Center Action Point area.  Due to the large numbers of World Jamboree Scouts, visitors will be able to observe, but not take part in these activities.

Your visit to the 24th World Scout Jamboree will be a connected experience.  WIFI and cellular service is available, so you will be able to stay in touch and post your pictures and videos.  Make sure your phone and camera are fully charged as you will want to capture your World Jamboree visit.

Check the day visitor web page for updates and information that will help make your 2019 World Scout Jamboree experience a lifetime memory.  Our Guest Service team looks forward to seeing you and helping you enjoy this once in a lifetime scouting experience.   Join us as we “Unlock the New World” at the Summit Bechtel National Family Scout Reserve in West Virginia in July 2019.
